Responsible Gaming
Betting should be entertainment, not a way to make money or get out of a hole. If it has stopped being fun, help is free, confidential and available any time.
1-800-GAMBLERNational problem gambling helpline: call or text, 24/7, free and confidential. Chat at ncpgambling.org.
Keep it in bounds
- You must be 21 or older to bet in most U.S. states. Only bet with operators licensed in your state.
- Decide what you can afford to lose before you start, and stop when it's gone. Never bet money you need for bills, rent or debts.
- Don't chase losses. A bigger bet to win it back is how small losses become big ones.
- Set deposit, wager and time limits. Every licensed sportsbook offers them in your account settings.
- Take breaks, and don't bet when you're drinking, upset or under pressure.
Warning signs
Betting more than you planned, hiding it from people close to you, borrowing to bet, feeling restless when you're not betting, or betting to escape problems. If any of these sound familiar, talk to someone.
Help and self-exclusion
- 1-800-GAMBLER: call or text, 24/7.
- Gamblers Anonymous: free peer support meetings, in person and online.
- Gam-Anon: support for family and friends.
- Self-exclusion: every licensed sportsbook can close or pause your account on request, and most states run a self-exclusion list through their gaming regulator that covers every operator in the state.
The Sharp Edition reports news and line movement. We don't take bets, and nothing here is advice to place one.
