The news that moves games, and whether the market has priced it in

About us

About & Editorial Standards

The Sharp Edition is an independent publication that tracks the news that can move an NFL or college football game, and measures whether the betting market has priced it in.

Who we are

The Sharp Edition is independently published. We are not owned by, paid by or affiliated with any sportsbook, exchange or team. We don't sell picks, and nothing here is betting advice.

What we cover

Injuries and availability, suspensions, roster moves and trades, quarterback changes, coaching and play-calling changes, and weather, for every NFL game and every FBS college game. For each piece of news we show what the betting line did around it, cause by cause, and give a verdict: priced in, partly priced in, not priced in, or moved past our number.

Where the facts come from

Official team announcements and injury reports, the league's and ESPN's public data, and reporting from established outlets (among them ESPN, ProFootballTalk, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, The Athletic and On3). Every note links to its source. We write each note in our own words and never reprint anyone's reporting. College football has no official injury report, so college availability comes from reporting and coaches' statements, and we say so on those pages.

How a note gets published

Our news desk uses AI models to read public reports as they appear, check them against what we've already published (the same development reported by three outlets becomes one note), and draft a short note. A note is published only when the desk is confident the report is a new, game-relevant fact; anything uncertain is held rather than guessed at. Injury statuses are recorded automatically from the official reports, and we check afterward who actually played. Betting lines are recorded from U.S. sportsbooks and the Kalshi exchange every few minutes; the consensus is their median.

Our numbers

Player values, the verdicts and the "what moved the line" breakdowns come from our own models, explained on the Method page. We measure them against what actually happens: how often listed players really sit, and how far the market really moves on each kind of news. When the measurements disagree with our assumptions, we change the model and say so on that page.

Corrections

News changes during the week. When a report is updated, we update the note and its timestamp. When we get something wrong, we correct it, or remove it if the underlying report was wrong. To report an error, email [email protected].

How we're funded

Advertising, and referral links on our Where to Bet page, which are marked as such. If you sign up through one, we may be paid. Advertisers and partners have no say in what we cover or what our numbers say, and verdicts are produced the same way for every game.

Responsible gaming

Only bet where it's legal, only if you're of age, and only what you can afford to lose. If gambling stops being fun, help is available 24/7 at 1-800-GAMBLER. See our responsible gaming page.
